Signal discontinuities matter beyond music

When a cycle must close, a broken join is its own failure mode — in machines, biology, and power, not only in audio.

A lot of real-world signals are cycles: a shaft turns, a heart beats, a load draws power in a repeating pattern. Those cycles only stay useful if the end can become the start again without a jump.

That jump is a discontinuity. The middle of the cycle can look healthy. The failure sits at the join — a click in audio, a spike in vibration, a false edge in a physiological or electrical record.

Treat the discontinuity as noise and you often smear the signal. Treat it as a seam that needs its own repair and you get a cleaner cycle without rewriting everything around it.

Reeldemo first met this problem in music, where a bad loop join is obvious on every repeat. The same idea was then tried on bearing vibration, heart-signal cycles, and synthetic engineering cases. Searching for a better join often beat fade-and-patch fixes when the real fault was the discontinuity.

These are early results, not a product claim. They support a wider claim: wherever a signal is meant to close, discontinuities deserve their own treatment.
